Black History Month Milan is a nonprofit organization dedicated to the study, research, promotion, and production of Afro, Afro-descendant, Black, and African cultures.

Through the promotion of these cultures, BHMM aims to foster an environment where "Blackness" is recognized and celebrated as a vital creative and cultural force, rather than merely an identity or label.

About

BHMM fosters transnational exchanges between Afro-descendant cultures and establishes a network of collaboration and dialogue among the Afro, Afro-descendant, Black, and African diasporas in Italy and worldwide. BHMM's activities include organizing events, conferences, workshops, and residencies focused on the socio-cultural contributions of Afro, Afro-descendant, Black, and African individuals.

BHMM also strives to promote the work of artists, writers, musicians, and other creatives. This includes organizing exhibitions, performances, and literary events that showcase the work of groups and individuals, providing a platform to share their work with the community. These events are designed to educate and inform the public about the intersectionality and significance of Afro, Afro-descendant, Black, and African individuals throughout history and in contemporary times.

We are BHMM.

DIRECTOR

Jermay Michael Gabriel is an Italian-Ethiopian-Eritrean transdisciplinary artist born in Addis Ababa. He lives and works in Milan, where he attended the Brera Academy of Fine Arts. Délio Jasse

CO-PRESIDENT

In his photographic work, Délio Jasse often interweaves found images with clues from past lives (found passport photos, family albums) to draw links between photography - in particular the concept of the 'latent image' - and memory. Jasse is known for experimenting with analogue photographic printing processes, including cyanotype, platinum and early printing processes such as 'Van Dyke Brown', as well as developing his own printing techniques. He uses analogue processes to subvert the reproducibility of the photographic medium, creating subtle variants and interventions using painting, liquid-light, gold-leafing and collage.

After graduating, she reignited her acting career, attending a preparatory course at the Civica Scuola di Teatro Paolo Grassi and finding her "home" at the Wariboko agency in 2021. She has acted in several short films, the web series Fangs 2, and advertisements for Sky, Netflix, and others. Recently, she has also delved into visual storytelling through self-portraits and videos, aiming to document her existence and promote media representation that values multiculturalism.

Growing up with Vallenato music, a genre that tells stories through poetry and evokes a spectrum of emotions, oral archives hold special significance for him, enabling him to craft images from stories he has heard or experienced through collective memory.

She champions this cause daily on social media and through her participation in artistic and commercial projects aligned with her vision. For her, being seen and heard in one's everyday life is the ultimate form of resistance.
